HOW competition law might impact on any proposed mergers within the magazine sector is among the topics for debate at a forum next week looking at competition and the media.
The annual lawyers gathering – the Scottish Competition Law Forum – has lined up three speakers to lead the discussion and the event is taking place on Thursday at the University of Glasgow. Anyone can attend.
Say the organisers: “For anyone engaged in press or broadcasting in Scotland this is a timely opportunity to hear from experts on developments in broadcasting licensing, and magazine mergers at UK and EU levels.”
On the biill are Christopher Stothers – from Arnold and Porter – who will be commenting on a recent Court of Justice case involving UK publican, Karen Murphy, who screened live premiership football via a Greek satellite decoder. Meanwhile, Bojana Ignatovic – from RBB Economics – talks about mergers and ‘market definition’ in the magazine sector.
Also speaking is Linsey McCallum, acting director of information, communication and media in the European Commission. She is speaking about developments at EU level.
