THE proposed referendum on Scottish independence officially dominated the news last week.
According to a review of stories in both national newspapers and BBC Online – by the charity, Media Standards Trust – First Minister, Alex Salmond’s plan to hold an independence referendum in the autumn of 2014 resulted in 225 articles – the highest of the week, followed by 146 articles about Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, winning the New Hampshire primary, and 124 articles about the Leveson Inquiry into press standards.
