A STAGGERING 21 events, featuring some of the best-known names in the Scottish media, are being staged next week… by a group of students at Glasgow University.
The students’ Representative Council is hosting its annual Media Week next week, with the likes of broadcaster and writer, Lesley Riddoch, and the editor of the BBC’s Question Time programme, Nicolai Gentchev, among the speakers.
Also on the bill is Iain Pope, formerly of the Daily Record and now at STV, and Ruaridh Arrow, who started his career on the Glasgow University Guardian newspaper – where he won The Herald Student Journalist of the Year title and was named News Reporter of the Year at the Guardian Student Media Awards – before going on to work as a producer at Sky News and then on to Channel 4’s Dispatches. His first feature length documentary, How to Start a Revolution, has won multiple awards including Best documentary at the Raindance Film Festival in London last year.
Pope – regional editor for Glasgow as part of STV’s network of local websites – is asking: Will crowd-sourced news spell the end of journalism?
