AN academic and a defence lawyer have been lined up as speakers at the next meeting of the Scottish Press Club.
Greg Philo is research director of the Glasgow University Media Unit and is Professor of Communications and Social Change in the department of Sociology at Glasgow University.
John McGovern, meanwhile, is a defence lawyer with Glasgow firm, McGovern MacKenna, and is described as a self-proclaimed ‘rebel lawyer’ and a keen user of social media. As well as blogging on the company’s website, he writes for The Firm magazine. He is a former president of the Glasgow Bar Association, an independent representative body for the legal profession in the West of Scotland.
The meeting is taking place on Thursday, from 7.30pm, at The Griffin, Bath Street, Glasgow. It is free to attend.
The Scottish Press Club was set up last year by freelance journalist, Martin Graham, and a fellow recent journalism graduate, Cristiana Theodoli, from Glasgow Caledonian University.
