THE Association of British Science Writers has issued a call for entries to its next awards competition.
With categories including Best News Item and Best Scripted/Edited TV Programme or Online Video, the competition has a deadline of April 4.
Among the winners last year was Robin McKie, science editor of the Observer, who won the Best Feature prize. In a statement issued by the awards organisers, he is quoted, saying: “The awards are judged and given out by my peers and they are not given out lightly, so to get one – for a feature I had worked on for so hard and so long – gave me a real feeling of accomplishment. It is good to be recognised and it spurs you to keep up the effort of writing the best you can. But at the end of the day, the fact that my peers rated my work is the factor that matters most.”
Last year, BBC Scotland was also among the winners, in the Best Scripted/Edited Programme (podcast, radio, TV or online video) category. Nick Jordan (producer/director), Adam Rutherford (presenter) and Jacqueline Smith (series producer) took the prize for ‘The Cell’ a BBC Scotland production broadcast on BBC4.
