He used to read the news on Grampian Television alongside Selena Scott and has won the Gaelic prize at the Scottish Press Awards, and last night, on BBC2, Angus Peter Campbell, now a writer and poet, was the subject of a TV documentary.
Made by BBC ALBA and called Aonghas Padraig Caimbeul, the programme – in Gaelic with English subtitles – featured Campbell talking to South Uist parish priest, Father Colin McInnes, about his life and work, which included the setting up of a small community newspaper and a spell on the West Highland Free Press. He later worked with the BBC as well as Grampian. He has also had various occupations as a film actor, kitchen porter, forester, lobster fisherman and builders' labourer.
His first novel, An Oidhche Mus Do Sheol Sinn (The Night Before We Sailed), published in 2003, was chosen in a poll of the Scottish public among the top ten Scottish Books Ever, run by The List magazine.
