Aberdeen hacks, led by veteran North-east newsman, Ted Kidd, have handed over more than £900 to support colleagues and their families in hardship.
The ex-Daily Record reporter – famed for his discos during the 1970s – turned his back on the dance floor to organise a fundraising race night.
All bets were on when, backed by freelance colleagues in the National Union of Journalists’ Aberdeen branch, he arranged the event in aid of the union’s charity, NUJ Extra.
Ted, former Aberdeen Record bureau chief and the branch’s welfare officer, was joined by colleagues including freelance writers and photographers, STV staffers, family and friends at the do last month in the Rusty Nail in the city’s Rosemount Viaduct.
Said Ted: “I’m absolutely delighted with the generosity shown on the night. We support a number of former colleagues and their families in the North-east and it’s important that we continue to do so, particularly in these difficult financial times. This is an enormous help and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us either by coming along on the night, sponsoring races or making donations.”
