A gala ball aimed at the north-east media and PR community is set to return after a year on the sidelines.
Hosted by Chris Harvey of STV and organised by Grampian PR Group – a volunteer-led organisation comprising PR practitioners in the north-east of Scotland – this year’s media ball is due to take place in two months time, with over three-quarters of tickets sold so far.
The networking event, which had to be cancelled last year as a result of low numbers, aims to raise money for two causes: NUJ Extra, which helps members of the National Union of Journalists in need of financial aid, and the Reading Bus, an initiative designed to promote reading among young people.
Says Morven Mackenzie, co-convenor of Grampian PR Group: “We are delighted with the uptake for this year's media ball, with more than 170 tickets already sold. The ball always proves to be a great night and we are sure the 2010 event will be no different. And with a masked theme set for the evening, we're looking forward to seeing what creations the guests come up with.
“Unfortunately, the 2009 ball didn't go ahead which was something we were very disappointed about. But, as a result of the economic conditions at the time, people were unable to say for definite early on whether or not they would be taking tables or booking tickets. As a voluntary organisation we were not able to press ahead without knowing for definite that we had that level of commitment.”
The GPRG Media Ball 2010 is being held on Friday October 15 at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa. More information can be found here.
