A FORMER assistant news editor at the Daily Record has taken up the permanent post of media relations officer for Scotland for the British Red Cross.
Derek Masterton, who spent 30 years at the Record before being made compulsorily redundant last May, had been working at the humanitarian organisation for seven months prior to being appointed on a permanent basis.
He succeeds Sharon Reader who has left to join the International Federation of the Red Cross.
Masterton told allmediascotland: “Obviously, I’m delighted to be staying with the Red Cross. It is a magnificent organisation, which does a massive amount of vital work throughout the UK and abroad and makes a difference to the lives of millions of people.
“The past seven months have provided me with some wonderful experiences and I can now look forward to many more in the future.
“The work of the Red Cross reveals many fascinating human interest stories and I’ll be continuing to promote that work with all branches of the media in Scotland.”
