AN obituary of a former school teacher credited as a “pioneer of media education in Scotland” – has been published by the Guardian newspaper.
Frank Gormlie died aged 59 from injuries sustained in a cycling accident in Spain.
Writes Rick Instrell: “He helped devise, then teach, the first certificated media studies course for Scottish schools and colleges, and was a founding member of the Association for Media Education in Scotland.”
Gormlie retired five years ago. His teaching stints included Forrester High School and James Gillespie’s High School, both in Edinburgh.
But before becoming a teacher, he is said to have done a variety of jobs – a roadie for the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, a brewery worker, a reporter for the Barrhead News and even a clairvoyant.
