SINCE the first Scottish Magazine Awards three years ago, the event has gone from strength to strength, with increased sponsorship this year and a rise in entries expected.
Organisers, the Periodical Publishers Association Scotland, have announced a deadline of September 25 for entries for this year’s awards, which seek to recognise and reward the best in all areas of Scottish magazine publishing.
With some big names on the judges panel – including Keith Jones, CEO of Reed Business Information; Ray Perman, Director of Scottish Enterprise; and, new this year, David Cooke, from Tesco News and Magazines – competition will be stiff across the 16 categories, which cover the magazine industry in all its different guises. This year’s prizes range from Consumer Magazine, Staff Magazine and Business Magazine of the Year to awards for editing, feature writing and design.
Kathy Crawford, business manager of the PPA Scotland, told Spike: “Because we’re now established, people have confidence in us, so we are looking forward to more entries to the awards this year.”
Around 400 people are expected to attend the ceremony which will be held on St Andrew’s Day, November 30, in The Radisson Hotel, Glasgow.
Journalist, author and actor, Giles Brandreth, will do the honours as host.
