A MOVIE about former Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin, directed by Scot, Kevin Macdonald, is to open the London Film Festival, which is taking place in October.
The Last King of Scotland will enjoy its premiere at the festival on October 18 and is based on a novel by Giles Foden. It stars stars Forest Whitaker, as Amin, and James McAvoy as a Scottish doctor who encounters him.
Funded by FilmFour, DNA and Scottish Screen, the Last King is the first fiction feature by Macdonald, whose credits include the massively successful documentaries, One Day In September and Touching The Void.
It is executive produced by Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, and Tessa Ross; produced by Andrea Calderwood, Charles Steel and Lisa Bryer; and co-produced by Christine Ruppert. Fox Searchlight plans a UK theatrical release in January next year.
This is the 50th year of the London Film Festival, which will be unveiling its line-up on the 14th of next month.
