POSSIBLE unrest at The Daily Record about the imminent launch of evening editions in Glasgow and Edinburgh – and, likely, elsewhere in Scotland – was yesterday averted by management assurances it would work constructively with the National Union of Journalists to sort out any possible problems.
Staff from the title met yesterday afternoon, with concerns about shift payments, plus the impact of extra shifts on people’s quality or work, uppermost in their minds.
Ahead of the meeting, NUJ Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran, had posted an opinion piece on this website, arguing that the expansion of the paper, into new editions, was in marked contrast with editorial cutbacks at other newspapers, and therefore should be met with a positive response, albeit strictly monitored.
It was a view later largely endorsed by the meeting.
