A PROPOSED three-day strike at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail is scheduled to go ahead, following a meeting yesterday at arbitration and conciliation body, ACAS, was unable to come up with an agreement.
The strike – starting a minute after midnight on Friday morning – is being staged by members of the National Union of Journalists over compulsory redundancies.
It follows a 48-hour walkout the previous weekend and two, 24-hour walkouts the two weekends before that. In between the walkouts, there is a work to rule.
The ACAS meeting involved the papers’ management and the NUJ.
Says NUJ Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran: “The company is now aware of the legal action we are preparing to take, as well as the industrial action.”
Meanwhile, the STUC annual conference yesterday agreed to debate a motion condemning the job cuts and will be doing so today.
