A NEW film by director, Sam Mendes, is to open this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Away We Go – described as “an off-beat road movie… following an expectant young couple as they travel across America in search of the perfect place to raise their family” – will be screened on June 17.
Mendes – director of American Beauty and Road to Perdition – and members of the cast are expected to attend.
He is quoted, saying: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Away We Go will have its international debut at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and especially pleased to be the Opening Night.
“I was last in Edinburgh in 1987 at the Fringe, and most nights the cast outnumbered the audience. So I’m really looking forward to returning – hopefully to a full house.”
The festival’s full programme is being announced on the sixth of next month, and tickets go on sale two days later.
