So, the task of opening a day-long conference in Edinburgh on the future of Scottish broadcasting fell to Bruce Crawford, the Scottish Government minister for parliamentary business…
MUCH of what we have done on broadcasting over the last few months has followed on from Blair Jenkins and his work [as chair of] the Scottish Broadcasting Commission in September.
It cannot be doubted that the establishment of the Commission, and its report, have changed the terms of the debate about broadcasting in Scotland.
Without in any way forgetting about the fine programmes which have been made in Scotland in the past – and which are still being made here, there is now a shared recognition that the status quo that existed in 2007 was unacceptable.
