AS reported as breaking news yesterday lunchtime, the editor of Scotland on Sunday newspaper is leaving, to become sports editor of the Daily Mail.
Les Snowdon is leaving the Sunday title, after just under two-and-a-half years in charge. Previously, he was editor of The Sunday Times Scotland, where, between and 1999 and 2000, he was its sports editor.
It won’t be the first time in recent years that he has been posted in London; between his sports editorship and editorship of The Sunday Times Scotland, he was deputy sports editor of The Sunday Times main newspaper.
Prior to joining the Sunday Times Scotland, he was deputy sports editor at The Scotsman. His obvious passion for sport means the opportunity to be heading the sports desk of an UK paper in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics in London, will have been irresistible.
It’s also understood another major factor in his decision is the chance to work with Daily Mail editor, Paul Dacre, whom he considers to be a “newspaper legend”.
It is not known exactly when he’ll be leaving. The latest, ABC circulation figures had Scotland on Sunday’s average sales standing at 54,925 in December as against 59,273 the previous December, ie down 4,348 or 7.34 per cent
