I am a little hesitant in this gathering as an academic rather than a media person.
Indeed, along with my co-editor and the contributors to a book on the media in Scotland, I was recently castigated by a distinguished columnist on the grounds than none of us were carpenters, and one really needs to be a carpenter to talk about joinery.
We did have a couple of politicians who have been/are journalists but the accusation remained.
