THE ‘blizzard that never materialised’ had some readers of the Scottish Daily Mail in Aberdeenshire yesterday having to do without a football match report featuring local side, Inverurie Locos – despite it being one of the biggest games in the club’s history.
The dilemma for the newspaper on Monday evening was whether to send copies of the paper off to Aberdeen ahead of an anticipated heavy snowfall and before the final whistle was blown on the Locos’ Scottish Cup match versus Motherwell, or wait for the result but then struggle to have any copies actually making their way through the snowdrifts.
In the end, some copies were sent off early, only for the weather to turn out less ferocious than feared.
A second edition, complete with a report on the Locos’ 3-0 loss, was soon enough winging its way for most of the north-east to enjoy.
