POLITICAL commentator, Iain Macwhirter, is hoping to be elected rector of Edinburgh University, but he will have to beat off the challenge of Labour peer, George Foulkes, if he is to represent student interests at the university’s court.
Macwhirter is a former politics student at the university.
The Sunday Herald and Herald writer is quoted in yesterday’s Scotsman newspaper saying: “Students and staff of Edinburgh University need a rector who isn’t part of the political establishment, but knows how to deal with it.”
