AS reported as breaking news yesterday on allmediascotland, the Edinburgh-based all-speech radio station, talk107, is to close.
Launched on St Valentine’s Day two years ago, it is to stop broadcasting at 10pm on Christmas Eve.
Staff were informed that a hoped-for management buy-out by station head, Matt Allitt, had failed to come off.
Instead, owners, UTV, have decided to return the licence to broadcasting regulators, Ofcom, with the staff being made redundant.
It’s believed 11 permanent jobs and nine freelance positions are affected.
Said Scott Taunton, UTV Radio (GB) chief executive: “It is disappointing that, after an exhaustive search, we have not been able to find a buyer for talk107.
“We explored a number of options, including a proposed management buy-out, but none proved to be viable. So unfortunately we have been left with no alternative but to close the station.”
