FREELANCE photographer, Kenny Ramsay, was among the lucky few to follow, from start to finish, football club, Queen of the South’s qualification for the UEFA Cup, by virtue of reaching the final of last season’s Scottish Cup.
It meant he had collected enough material to produce a commemorative book, three advance copies of which arrived from the printers last week.
And as luck would have it, Ramsay – who works for The Scottish Sun on a regular basis – was visiting the club’s training session in Glasgow, with his trio of books, when the club chair, David Rae, happened to drop by.
It meant Ramsay was able to spontaneously present Rae with the first copy of ‘Passport to Europe’.
Says Ramsay: “I received three advance copies from the printer in China last week and the order of 3,000 books has been shipped and will arrive at Felixstowe before being transported to my house in Greenock by the end of next month.
“I have now secured a shop unit at the Loreburn Centre in Dumfries to sell the book from Monday November 24 for one week and I am organising an exhibition of signed prints to view at the shop as well as raffles for charity.
“People coming to buy a book will also be able to meet a few of the Cup final team during the week. It promises to be very exciting and hopefully the feel-good factor from the Cup run will be re-kindled.
“This project is completely self-financed and is a big gamble, but what a joy it has been to see the finished product. My publishers, JaM – Jim Lockwood and Matthew Ashton, have done a fantastic job and the fans who sent me their stories [for inclusion in the book] have done themselves proud.”
P.S. QoS narrowly lost to Danish club, FC Nordsjaelland, in the first round.
