THE sports editor at the Evening Times newspaper is the latest to accept voluntary redundancy, as the paper’s publishers seek to shed 20 editorial staff.
David Stirling is understood to have negotiated a voluntary redundancy package on Thursday afternoon, ahead of leaving the next day.
He had been sports editor for 13 years. Before that, he was 20 years at the Daily Record, as sports production editor and associate sports editor.
In the last two years, the production staff on the Evening Times sports desk has gradually reduced from 11 to five.
Stirling has had a successful, humorous ‘front-of-book’ Monday column in the Evening Times for seven years, and that will continue, meantime.
His deputy is Graham Shields.
