Scottish Legal News expansion for press agency

A SCOTTISH news agency is about to add to its considerable specialism of providing housing and construction eNewsletters.

The Scottish News Agency is this week launching a new, free daily e-news service for Scotland’s lawyers.

Set up in conjunction with the Scottish Legal Action Group, Scottish Legal News will comprise a daily newsletter aimed at the country’s civil and criminal practitioners, as well as the wider legal community.

To be found on www.ScottishLegal.com, Scottish Legal News follows in the successful mould of Scottish Housing News and Scottish Construction Now, which have been published by Scottish News Agency for seven and four years, respectively.

A formal launch of the service will take place in Parliament House, in Edinburgh, on Thursday.

Scottish News Agency, which was founded by Graham Ogilvy as Dundee Press Agency in 1986, has appointed Baktosch Gillan to edit the new title.

Gillan joined the agency two years ago and has worked as an online editor for the company’s www.housingnews.co.uk, which publishes eight daily regional newsletters for the UK’s social housing sector.

Says Ogilvy: “This is an exciting development for us and represents a departure from our focus on housing and construction. We have recently rolled out our new UK construction portal, www.constructionnow.co.uk, and will spend the next year concentrating on our existing titles.

“We have several editorial innovations planned for Scottish Legal News and hope to make the service an integral part of every Scottish lawyer’s working day.”

He added: “The newspaper side of the business is still very important to us and our output under chief reporter, Kurt Bayer, has increased in recent years. But we see our internet titles as businesses that can create real value and we now employ seven online journalists.”
