AN Edinburgh-based film distributor has bought the UK rights for one of the big hits of last month’s UK French Film Festival.
CineFile has secured the UK distribution rights to Jean Becker’s ‘Conversations with My Gardener’ (Dialogue avec mon jardinier), announcing the win at the Cannes Film Festival, which is currently taking place.
Says CineFile’s managing director, Ilona Morison: “I’m very excited by the title’s prospects. It was undoubtedly one of the biggest successes of the French Film Festival, which was attended by Becker, plus the producer, Louis Becker, and one of the lead actors, Jean-Pierre Darroussin.”
The film is reported to have opened in France in June last year, recording more than 1.2 million admissions and earning a best actor Cesar nomination for Darroussin.
Daniel Auteuil also stars, as a jaded painter who is reunited with a childhood friend (played by Darroussin). CineFile are planning a UK theatrical release for late this year.
Meanwhile, the company is releasing Emmanuel Mouret’s romantic comedy, Change of Address (Changement d’adresse), in UK cinemas, a week tomorrow.
