EDINBURGH will be ‘rolling out the red carpet’ for screen stars, Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller, who are expected to attend the opening night of the capital’s international film festival.
Taking place on June 18, the opening night film is to be The Edge of Love, directed by John Maybury, in which Knightly and Miller feature. The film is based on poet, Dylan Thomas’ love life, and Maybury will be also making a personal appearance at the event.
Says the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s artistic director, Hannah McGill: “I couldn’t be happier to be opening this most auspicious festival with this utterly seductive and fascinating film, which stars some of the most charismatic young performers in the business, and affirms John Maybury as one of our most important directors.”
Tickets for the screening of The Edge of Love will go on sale on Friday May 9, at midday, two days after the announcement of the festival’s full programme.
The film will be eligible for the EIFF’s Michael Powell Award, which is judged by an international jury recognising the best new British feature film and which carries a substantial cash prize. The film will also be eligible for the PPG Award for Best Performance in a British Film, and the Standard Life Audience Award, which is chosen by audience votes.
