THE Aberdeen Evening Express is to mark the return of German soccer giants, Bayern Munich, to the home of Aberdeen FC, Pittodrie, tomorrow night, in unusual style.
The newspaper is to reprint a copy of its issue back in 1983 when the Dons came back, from twice being behind, to notch up arguably the club’s most famous home win, by beating Bayern 3-2 in the quarter-final of the European Cup-Winners’ Cup, on their way to lifting the trophy, against mighty Real Madrid, in Gothenburg. Tomorrow, it’s UEFA Cup business.
The copy of the 1983 issue will be given away free with the normal paper.
Dons’ director of football – and captain of the successful team that defeated Bayern in ’83 – Willie Miller, writes a column for the Evening Express.
The match is being shown live on BBC ONE Scotland.
