IT was one of the more chilling photographs carried in a family newspaper in recent times – the Daily Record’s front-page picture exclusive showing 14 women preening and smiling at an open day.
For, the amazing photograph was of 14 out of 15 lifers at Cornton Vale Prison, near Stirling, including some of Scotland’s most notorious killers.
And yesterday, the red-top revealed that some of the lady killers are none-too-pleased: because they didn’t look at their best.
The front-page photograph was taken after the convicts enjoyed manicures and hairdos for the ‘open day’ which was followed by a barbecue.
The Daily Record reported a source as saying: “At first, they were wondering where the picture had come from and who was responsible. But then they thought they could have looked better despite the pampering and the make-over… but there has also been talk about who looks best in the picture and bitchy put-downs about those who don’t.
“Many of them were furious because the Record published details of their crimes. Until then, most had been economical with the truth about who they had killed and how they done it. Now they have all been exposed and the real stories are out there among fellow inmates.”
