THE editor of the Scottish Sunday Express has just completed a signing spree, including turning award-winning columnist, Nicola Barry, into a full-time member of the team.
Derek Lambie told allmediascoland: “In the past six years, we’ve produced some memorable editions with a small and hard-working team, but it’s time to really step up a gear.
“These are certainly exciting times at Scottish Express Newspapers as we strive to produce papers for the ‘New Scotland’.
“With that in mind we have managed to lure away some fine journalists from rival publications. On February 1, Paula Murray joins us as a staff reporter from the Daily Record. She has a proven track record with both the Record and with [press agency] Newsflash, where she worked in the Edinburgh bureau.
“The multi-award-winning Nicola Barry will be joining the team on February 12 as a full-time features writer.
“She has been a weekly columnist with the Scottish Sunday Express for six years, and will be a worthy addition to the staff.”
Finally, Mark Stevenson, currently with The Sun, will be joining the paper as news editor, to replace Tom Martin, who has taken up a post across the newsroom floor with the Scottish Daily Express.
Adds Lambie: “In recent weeks, we have also unveiled a new Showbiz Secrets column, using the talents of respected film journalist, John Millar, and we will be looking at other avenues to strengthen the paper even further – whether that be in news, features or sport – in the coming weeks and months.”
