SALES of the Evening Times were boosted by 4,000 copies last week, courtesy of two editions published in Spain for the estimated 20,000 Rangers fans attending their club’s Champions League fixture against Barcelona.
There was a Barcelona edition of the paper on match day and another the following day, each priced at €2, the matchday one including a wraparound poster, the following day’s including sports writer, Darrell King’s, match report, plus pics from staff photographers, Nick Ponty and Marc Turner.
It’s believed to be the first time a UK regional paper has printed an entire edition abroad.
Newspaper sales manager, Malcolm MacDonald, travelled to Spain to ensure the smooth running of the circulation operation.
Copies were on sale at more than 60 newspaper kiosks across the Catalan capital, with five English-speaking vendors, who had been recruited locally, decked out in Evening Times gear.
