THE Big Issue in Scotland magazine has appointed a new editor.
Paul McNamee has this week taken over from out-going editor, Clare Harris – who is believed to be headed for New Consumer magazine.
McNamee had been deputy editor for a year. “It’s an exciting time for the magazine,” he said.
“The Big Issue in Scotland has been enjoying a period of growth in recent months, as other magazines saw sales dip. There is a big responsibility with a title as well known as The Big Issue, but I’m looking forward to building on our recent growth and continuing to give the readers an unique news and arts magazine and vendors a title they can be proud to sell. It’s going to be a bright, vibrant read with a distinctive voice that has something to say. The Big Issue is a great read and I want to make sure as many people as possible know this.”
McNamee had previously been news editor on the NME in London and has freelanced for titles including The Irish Times, The Guardian, Uncut and the Belfast Telegraph.
Senior news reporter, Peter John Meiklem, will act up as deputy editor. The magazine will advertise the deputy editor position and is understood to be looking to increase its pool of freelancers.
