AMID the 50th birthday celebrations taking place at stv, there is one particular anniversary being celebrated today: exactly 50 years ago, the station’s Scotsport programme was launched.
stv is currently producing a documentary celebrating the programme, which will air later this year.
Remarkably, it has had only a handful of presenters, beginning with Arthur Montford, who hosted over 2,000 editions of the programme, until his retirement in 1989. Then came Jim White, for almost ten years, and Jim Delahunt, afterwards, for eight.
Current hosts, Grant Stott and Andy Walker, were preceded by Delahunt co-hosting the show with Sarah O and Julyan Sinclair, for a couple of years.
But the programme – considered the longest-running sports magazine TV programme in the world – has not always been titled, simply Scotsport; there’s been Scotsport First, Scotsport SPL, Scotsport Fanzone, Scotsport Rugby Round-Up and Scotsport Extra Time.
