THE MP who described the prospect of a Scottish Broadcasting Corporation as “parochial”, at the launch of a government commission into broadcasting, has been lined up as the keynote speaker at a conference about the future of television.
Scotland Office minister, David Cairns, is speaking at a conference on the imminent switchover of the TV signal, from analogue to digital.
The event is taking place on October 24, in Edinburgh, and is titled, ‘Digital switchover: Is there a cultural dividend for Scotland? Challenges and opportunities for the post-digital age’.
His ‘parochial’ comment followed First Minister, Alex Salmond’s recent setting up of a commission to look at Scottish broadcasting, not least in light of a drop in the number of network TV commissions.
