A MEETING between one of the country’s biggest local newspaper groups and the National Union of Journalists is scheduled for Friday, to resolve allegations of journalists being asked to take on extra responsibilities without extra pay.
Last week, the union submitted a collective grievance against the Ayrshire division of Clyde and Forth Press.
Its titles include the Irvine Times, Ardrossan Herald and Ayr Advertiser.
Says NUJ Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran, staff there “have had enough” of being asked, for instance, to cover for absent editors without additional reward for their efforts.
