ALL six films produced as part of a competition run by the Scottish Documentary Institute have found themselves in the final of another competition: for the best Short Scottish Documentary award at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The SDI competition, called Bridging the Gap, was on the theme of ‘white’ and resulted in films such as How to Save a Fish from Drowning (about the death of white communities in the USA), Breadmakers (about a community of bakers with learning disabilities) and Butterfly (about a young Scottish woman with Albinism).
Says the institute, which is based at the Edinburgh College of Art: “The EIFF programming team thought that they were so strong this year that they decided to screen them all, together with another associated SDI doc, Standing Start (Imagine Pictures).”
The Short Scottish Documentary Award screening takes place tomorrow, at 12.45pm, at the Cameo cinema. There’s an additional chance to see the Bridging the Gap: White titles, on Tuesday, at 12.30pm, at the Edinburgh Filmhouse.
