SCOTTISH actress, Kate Dickie, is among those who will choose the best new British film to screen at the Edinburgh International Film Festival – opening tomorrow.
Dickie – who appeared in the recent Glasgow-set movie, Red Road – is joined on the jury for this year’s Michael Powell Award by Geoff Gilmore, director, Sundance Film Festival; Jonathan Coe, novelist, journalist and biographer; actress, Natalie Press; and Jay Weissberg, world renowned film critic. Gilmore is the jury chair.
Named in honour of one of Britain’s most original filmmakers, the Michael Powell Award was inaugurated in 1993.
The jury will also be judging a brand new award, to honour the best performance in a British feature film.
The films in the running for this year’s Michael Powell Award are: And When Did You Last See Your Father?; Control; Extraordinary Rendition; Hallam Foe; My Life as a Bus Stop; Saxon; Seachd – the Inaccessible Pinnacle; Special People; Sugarhouse; The Waiting Room; and W∆Z.
