THE National Union of Journalists is considering whether to ask the Daily Record why it declined to report a walk-out staged by journalists at the Herald group of newspapers.
The walk-out, on Friday, involved around 200 journalists and follows the proposed sacking of staff at the Evening Times. It was the first strike action at a Scottish newspaper for almost 20 years. Some newspapers, including The Times and the Independent on Sunday, reported the action extensively.
It is understood the walk-out led to severe delays in the printing of Saturday’s The Herald, with London and parts of the Highlands subsequently not receiving that day’s edition.
Yesterday, the Record’s lack of coverage led to complaints being made to the NUJ’s Scottish Office. “We are thinking about writing a letter of complaint,” said a spokesperson.
