AT least 200 people are expected to today attend a mass meeting called by the National Union of Journalists in response to compulsory redundancies being served on staff at the Herald group of newspapers.
Five staff at the Evening Times have been affected, as the group – which includes The Herald and Sunday Herald newspapers – seeks a budget cut of upto three million pounds.
While voluntary redundancies have been offered and taken, the union says it will not accept sackings. Hence, on Monday it served notice that it is calling for a ballot on industrial action.
Taking place at 3pm, at Glasgow Caledonian University, the meeting will be addressed by NUJ Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran.
