THE sports editor of Scotland on Sunday newspaper is to switch tack, to take on a writing role within the paper.
After six years at the helm of the sports desk, Richard Bath has agreed a new role with the paper’s editor, Les Snowdon, which will see him step down as sports editor to allow him to write across all the sections, except news.
Already, he does a weekly restaurant review for SoS and, elsewhere, he writes regularly for Rugby World magazine.
Bath told Spike: “I fancied a change, it’s a tough shift being a sports editor, and Les has been great in making it happen. It’ll be great doing some good-size pieces.”
Current ‘number two’, Martin Allen, will be a contender to replace Bath; chief sportswriter, Tom English – a former sports editor of the Sunday Times Scotland – may be enjoying his writing too much to apply.
Bath is also working on a book, ‘Scottish Rugby Miscellany’. It’s not known when exactly he’ll make the switch.
