A NEW Glasgow publishing venture has big ambitions, in the city.
Since the beginning of March, Premier Publishing has been producing two, free monthly newspapers, serving the southside and west end of the city. Next month, Southside News and West End News are to be joined by titles serving the other points of the city compass.
Run by a former magazine publishing director at The Herald and a former general manager of free weekly, The Glaswegian, Premier Publishing is planning the launch of East End News and Northside News.
In total, all four titles will boast a circulation of 100,000, making Campbell Murdoch and Derek Williams serious players on the city’s newspaper scene.
Full-time staff already comprises one journalist, a photographer, two finance people, two designers and five sales folk, plus five freelance reporters, one freelance photographer and four freelance distributors.
Premier Publishing is shortlisted in the Product Launch of the Year category at next month’s Scottish Media Awards, being run by marketing and media magazine, The Drum.
Said Murdoch: “We are starting from a modest base, but are very pleased with the success so far, with our two titles, and are excited about the future with four. We recognise we have a long way to go and there’s lots of hard work ahead. But it’s encouraging how things have turned out so far.”
