THE cream of Scottish journalism will be gathering next month in Glasgow, for the 28th Scottish Press Awards – the shortlist for which has just been announced.
Excluding the Gaelic Journalist of the Year category, the nominations see the Daily Record pick up 13, The Herald 11, and the Sunday Herald nine.
The others are: Sunday Mail four, Evening Times three, Edinburgh Evening News two, Scotsman six, Sunday Times Scotland four, Scotland on Sunday six, Scottish Sun six, Observer one, Shetland Times one, News of the World three, Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser two, Scottish Daily Mail four, Evening Express one, Falkirk Herald one, Wishaw Press two, Dumfries and Galloway Standard one, Sunday Post one, Holyrood magazine one, Greenock Telegraph one, Scottish Daily Mirror one, Press Association one, and The Big Issue in Scotland one. Freelancers received three nominations.
Say organisers, the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society, the awards seek to “encourage and promote standards of journalism and recognise professional talent and skills”.
They are open to journalists and photographers working for newspapers and magazines published in Scotland and Scottish-based journalists and photographers writing exclusively on Scottish affairs for non-Scottish publications.
