WITH a stunning five awards, last night’s celebration of the best of Scottish film and television – the BAFTA Scotland ceremony – unbdoubtedly belonged to Red Road, the film about a CCTV operator in Glasgow, by debut director, Andrea Arnold.
The film, set in the city’s Red Road flats, scooped the Best Director title as well as Best Screenplay and Best Film. It also saw Kate Dickie and Tony Curran take the acting honours.
Other winners included the Channel 4 drama, Low Winter Sun, plus stv’s Taggart and BBC Scotland’s John Leslie’s Childhood, which picked up the prize for Best Factual Programme at the ceremony hosted by GMTV presenter, Lorraine Kelly.
BBC1’s Still Game took the Best Television Programme award.
Taking place in Glasgow’s City Halls and with an audience of over 800, the awards ceremony was the biggest in BAFTA Scotland’s history.
Highlights are being shown this evening on BBC ONE Scotland, at 10.35pm.
