A SCOTTISH independent film company has dispensed with the ‘middleman’ in trying to get its film shown on cinema screens.
Edinburgh-based Mead Kerr has by-passed the convention of waiting for a distributor to ‘pick up its film’, by going direct to cinemas and selling it themselves.
Night People is showing in Edinburgh and Glasgow at the end of the week and is destined a broadcast on television early next year.
The winner of last year’s BAFTA Scotland Audience Award, it is set in the capital on Halloween.
Certificate 15, it is being screened at Cineworld, Fountainpark, Edinburgh (from Friday to the following Thursday), and the Glasgow Film Theatre (from Sunday to the following Tuesday).
Funded by the Scottish, new talent film scheme, New Found Film, Night People follows four very different stories taking place in Edinburgh on the one, October 31 night. Its inspiration were the observations of first-time director, Adrian Mead, who worked for 17 years as a nightclub doorman.
While the company has invested in one print of the film, it has been able to show it at both venues simultaneously thanks to the state-of-the-art digital projector at the GFT. Early next year will see Night People not only appear on TV but also as a DVD and an online download. The TV broadcast will be on stv, one of the backers of New Found Film. Another backer is Scottish Screen.
It is also to appear at a film festival in Los Angeles, HD Fest, in December.
