TUESDAY night sees a press screening in Glasgow – ahead of its UK release on the tenth of next month – of the movie, Starter for Ten.
Marking the directorial debut of Glasgow-born Tom Vaughan, the movie is co-produced by Tom Hanks and is an adaptation of a novel by David Nicholls.
Brought up in Helensburgh, Vaughan began developing an interest in filmmaking after appearing in a children’s drama series, Stookie, made by Scottish Television. Aged about 14, a summer’s acting earned him the princely sum of a £1,000.
This was the mid-1980s and video cameras back then cost about a thousand pounds. He spent all his earnings on a camera.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
