AN Edinburgh agency set up less than a year ago has been shortlisted in an UK-wide competition recognising the best of public relations.
Orbit has been named among the nominees in the Public Affairs category of the competition, being run by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
The nomination is for a campaign for Scotgold, which is seeking to establish a goldmine and which sought to build a groundswell of support among politicians, industry and conservation bodies locally and nationally for the mine at Cononish in the Scottish Highlands.
Says Orbit, in a statement: “The huge weight of support orchestrated by Orbit ultimately led to the overturning of an earlier rejection of the gold mine and its unanimous approval by Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority. Orbit brought about the turnaround by highlighting the huge economic and social benefits of the project, as well as talking up the cachet of extracting the first ‘Scottish gold’ since medieval times and its potential use by jewellers.”
Orbit was established last year by Alex Orr, Alex Bruce and James Tout.
Among other Scots nominations is two for Weber Shandwick Scotland, in the Integrated & Marcomms Campaigns and the Broadcast Campaigns categories.
The winners will be announced on May 28.
