The Scotsman Launches New Outdoor Pursuits Event

A recent move by The Scotsman newspaper into the events sector is to see it host, next year, an exhibition show dedicated to outdoor pursuits.

Expected to attract 10,000 visitors, Outdoor Pursuits Scotland 2011 is to be held at Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, between April 2-3. It is to include special, themed zones for cycling, water sports, camping and walking, fishing, snow, rock and adrenalin sports.

Marketing for the show is to include a nationwide radio advertising campaign, plus print advertising in The Scotsman and sister titles, Scotland on Sunday and the Edinburgh Evening News. There is to be advertising too in over 40 regional titles owned by Scotsman publisher, Johnston Press, plus on the company's many websites.

There is a dedicated website, scottishoutdoorpursuits.co.uk.

Earlier this year, The Scotsman launched a series of conferences, beginning with a look at how Edinburgh might develop over the next five years.

In a statement issued by Scotsman Publications, managing director, Andrew Richardson, is quoted, saying of the outdoor pursuits show: “We are delighted to be developing what we intend will become an annual event. Initial interest and reaction to our plans is very encouraging and to know we have already sold over 20 per cent of the available space at this early stage shows that there is a real appetite for an event of this type in Scotland. Bringing together all of our Scottish papers and websites to focus on one event means we have a powerful proposition to make to potential exhibitors.”
