THREE new scriptwriters are to see their work performed at this year’s Edinburgh Comedy Festival after coming out on top in a BBC Scotland competition.
The budding comic writers were selected from hundreds of entries to the Scotland: Write Here, Write Now competition, co-ordinated by the broadcaster’s comedy department.
And Joanna Bolouri, 32; Rob Drummond, 28; and Rebecca McFarland, 42, will now see their scripts – based on a sitcom or comedy drama set in contemporary Scotland – enacted on stage in front of an audience of industry professionals.
Says Jemma Rodgers, executive editor of comedy at BBC Scotland: “We were absolutely delighted not only by the volume of entries we received, but also by the quality.
“There are some very talented unknown writers out there, but in the end we could only pick three winners. The scripts from Joanna, Rebecca and Rob all have a real spark to them, and capture contemporary Scotland.”
