A FORMER reporter and producer at Channel 4 News has become the third new member of staff, in recent weeks, to have begun teaching journalism at a Scottish university.
The arrival of James Blake this week complete a trio of recent appointments at Edinburgh Napier University, with Blake joining having been at Channel 4 News for a decade.
He joins Kenny Toal, who joined the university in October. Toal is a double Royal Television Society award-winning journalist who arrived after 13 years working as news anchor, correspondent and producer for ITV News and ITN.
And completing the trio is Kathleen Morgan, who joined the journalism teaching team in September. Kathleen was editor of The Herald Magazine between 2001 and this year, having previously written and edited at the Sunday Herald, the Daily Record and The List.
The MA Journalism and BA (Hons) Journalism courses at Edinburgh Napier University have recently undergone a revamp, with investment in industry-standard broadcasting studios partly contributing to the broadcast elements of the curriculum receiving accreditation from the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.
Fifteen years ago, Napier University became one of the first universities in the country to offer formal journalism education.
