A FORMER film critic of The Herald newspaper, and now artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, has been recognised at an awards ceremony celebrating women in the film and television industries.
Hannah McGill today received the ‘New talent’ award – “given to an emerging talent who, in the last two years, has made a notable contribution in film, television or digital media” – from the organisation, Women in Film and Television, which boasts over 10,000 members, worldwide.
In addition to its annual awards ceremony, WFTV promotes women in the industry all year round with a programme of master classes, screenings, lectures, pitching sessions, panel discussions and networking drinks.
They organise industry events at Cannes and London film festivals, and run the only woman-to-woman mentoring scheme in the UK.
