COMEDY audiences will need to be ready for pretty much anything when Jason Cook takes to the stage in Glasgow on Friday 15 May 2015 to headline Gilded Balloon Comedy at Drygate.
Jason Cook will be doing what he does best, delivering rock-solid stand-up, lightning-fast banter and true-to-life stories entertainingly told with the sort of charm that’ll have Glaswegians laughing in spite of themselves.
Says a spokesperson: “However, behind this irresistibly cheerful Geordie exterior lurks a dark, sharp comedic mind capable of dragging an unsuspecting Friday night crowd to places they most definitely shouldn’t want to go.”
Cook will be joined on stage by the perkily engaging and self-deprecating Mancunian comedian, Hayley Ellis (with her Lhasa Apso dog, Kevin), and the Glasgow-based comedian and performance poet, Viv Gee.
The evening will be compered by one of the most trusted comperes and respected headliners on the Scottish circuit, Raymond Mearns.
Larger than life and twice as much fun, Mearns is as quick with his brain as he is with his tongue. This Glaswegian is always ready to dish out a bellyful of laughs to hungry audiences everwhere.
Jason Cook is an award-winning comedian and television writer who started his stand-up career in 2005 when he became part of a sketch group called Soups.
He then went on to make a name for himself around the Tyneside area, most notably his time spent as a regular compere at The Hyena Club.
He is now well know on the circuit for his razor-sharp humour, trademark rapid-fire gags and ridiculously funny and well-crafted storytelling.
In 2012, Cook’s award-winning sitcom, Hebburn, was commissioned by the BBC for a full series on BBC2. It was a story based on his own life and upbringing in the South Tyneside town of Hebburn.
“My jaw aches from laughing.” – Time Out London
The Manchester comedian and former regular contributor to XFM’s breakfast show, Hayley Ellis, has gone from strength to strength since she began performing in 2009.
Hayley’s natural warmth and ‘girl-next-door charm’ make her impossible to dislike, something that has become evident in her success in new act competitions throughout the UK.
“Hayley Ellis is fast becoming Manchester’s Funniest female” – Steve Wright, Radio 2
At the inaugural Scottish Comedy Awards 2014, Viv Gee picked up the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Comedy.
The Glasgow-based comedian, performance poet, actor, writer and stand-up comedy lecturer has been performing on the UK comedy circuit since 1995.
Her witty, snappy poems of acute social observation and her top notch stand up, taking familiar subjects and subverting the nostalgic clichés with something out of leftfield, have earned her supporting roles with likes of Mark Thomas, Jo Brand and Henry Rollins on their tours.
Gilded Balloon Comedy at Drygate brings together the very best craft beer, fearless food for the soul and strong intelligent comedy with a quality blend of up and coming comedians and the finest established comics in an intimate comedy club.
